10 ways for Students to earn some extra cash in United Kingdom (UK)

The recession is hitting the pockets of Britons and it is thought that millions of people have been forced to take on a second job simply to make ends meet.

Getting some part-time work is one way to make some extra cash, but there are other ways, too. Here are 10 to start with.
1. Answer text questions
If you are an anorak for trivia, why not get paid for sharing your wealth of knowledge? There are several mobile phone text answering services that need more researchers to answer the thousands of questions they receive per day. The most popular ones are Texperts (www.text118118.com) and AQA (www.aqa.63336.com).
It is flexible work and you just have to be a bit knowledgeable and quick at searching the internet. You can earn about £10 an hour on average. You need to be fluent in English, with excellent writing skills, but you can work from wherever you want, and you get paid for each question you answer.
2. Become a simulated patient
Medical schools across the country run communication skills workshops for their trainee doctors and require people to act as patients. A simulated patient is a person who plays the part of a real patient allowing medical students to learn by developing their communication skills and diagnostic abilities. For example, Butte Medical School at the University of St Andrews pays £6.97 per hour and sessions last between one and four hours.
3. Rent out your driveway
Rent your driveway, garage or secure parking space and earn £50-£300 per month by advertising on www.yourparkingspace.co.uk.
How much you can charge depends on factors such as location, proximity to train/tube stations, or the availability of parking in your area. For example, if there is a nearby car park or pay-and-display bay, you may want your price to be more competitive than the cost of either of these. It's also worth doing a quick search to see what others are charging.
Keep in mind that these types of websites may charge a commission for their service. For example www.ParkatmyHouse.com, a similar website, charges an ongoing 15pc of the total amount of money received for successful rentals. However, www.yourparkingspace.co.uk is free to join.
4. Get a lodger
Taking in a lodger is an easy way to bring in extra income. Advertise your extra room on house and flat-share website Spare Room (www.spareroom.co.uk). Listings are free, the only charge is if you want to highlight your listing and run it simultaneously on other property websites such as www.intoLondon.com and Globrix (www.globrix.com). Prices start at £7 for a seven-day listing.
Keep in mind that you can earn up to £4,250 in any tax year and be exempt from income tax. If you earn more than £4,250 in a year, you can either pay tax on your whole profit, minus any expenses and capital allowances, or your profit minus £4,250. If you choose this option, however, you won't be able to deduct any expenses or capital allowances. You can get your tax reliefs and allowances by filling in your Self-Assessment tax return.
5. Become a mystery shopper
Go undercover and become a mystery shopper and earn £10-£15 per job.
This job requires you to judge customer service in shops, restaurants, hotels, banks, even on public transport and you might do this through store visits, telephone calls or even shopping online.
The payment for each job will vary depending on the amount of time the job will take and its complexity. Sign up with market research companies such as GFK NOP (www.gfknop.com), TNS Global (www.tnsglobal.com) or Consumer Intelligence (www.consumerintel.com) to start making money while you shop.
6. Sell your books on Amazon
If you are a bit of a bookworm, you could have hundreds of pounds just sitting on your shelves. Sign up with www.Amazon.co.uk to sell your old novels, textbooks or DVDs and watch the sales roll in. Unlike eBay, Amazon sells at fixed prices and listings can last for months or years.
Just sign up for a seller's account and search for your books by title, ISBN or UPC and choose a price. Postage is broken down by item category and is automatically added to your listing, so you needn't bother with a set of scales.
You will be notified by email when an item sells and just pop it in the post to complete the sale. Avoid Post Office queues and buy your postage online at www.royalmail.com Just print the label and glue it to the package and you are done. It really couldn't be easier.
7. Get paid to party
The home-shopping party is back and now there are more brands. If setting your own hours and selling to customers of your own choice appeals, this could be the type of job for you. Choose from The Body Shop at Home (www.thebodyshop.co.uk), The Pampered Chef (www.pamperedchef.co.uk) or Neal's Yard Remedies at Home (www.nyrhome.com) and you get to set your own income level and are able to cash in on some great discounts on products.
For the Body shop at Home, you make 25pc profit on all your sales – so if you sell 10 bottles of shower gel at £5.85 each, you would make a £14.65 profit.
8. Become a tutor
If you are fluent in another language, good with math’s or have mastered an instrument, get paid for teaching in spare time. Families will pay up to £25 an hour for tutors to coach children through key exams. To find local jobs, contact First Tutors (www.firsttutors.co.uk), UK Tutors (www.uktutors.com) or Tutor Hunt (www.tutorhunt.com).
9. Host a foreign student
If you have spare room, you could earn thousands each year by taking in an exchange student. You can host students for the academic year or a few weeks. For a list of schools in your area, visit the International Association of Language Centers (www.ialc.org). Students who stay in Brighton in Homestay (with a host), for instance, pay £109 a week.
10. Work as a film extra
Being a film extra can be lucrative, with rates typically ranging from £80 to £100 a day. You can earn more if you provide your costume, or do overtime. Universal Extras specializes in finding film work for students, but also finds work for non-students. For more information, visit the website (www.universalextras.co.uk).

30 Best Interesting And Scam Free Ways To Make Money Online

As a writer who has been writing online since 2005, I’ve run across – and tried – plenty of varied ways to make money online. I’ve seen the scams and been blessed by discovering legitimate ways to make money online.
Here are 30 unique ways to earn some cash via the Internet:

1. Amazon: Publish your own Kindle books

Real people who love writing and marketing are finding that they can publish their own digital books directly to Amazon using their Kindle Direct Publishing platform. Take for instance blogger Thomas Strock, who made $6,716.05 in one month alone from all his Kindle books. Not bad for an 18-year-old.

2. Google AdSense: Set up your own niche websites

I love reading the way that Spencer Haws – not the basketball player, but the webmaster – sets up websites focused around a variety of topics and then places Google AdSense ads on them to make money.

3. YouTube: Make money via video ads

If you know your way around your smartphone’s video feature, try to earn a $4 million per year like vlogger PewDiePie by uploading interesting videos to YouTube.com and monetizing them, praying they go viral.

4. Squidoo: Write interesting articles

There’s a noteworthy monetary trail on Virginia Allain’s Squidoo page that shows how her income has climbed and fallen over the years. As of August 2014, she made $676 for the month via the site.

5: iTunes App Store: Sell your own app

You don’t even need to be as technically inclined as Harlan Yee, a developer who made nearly $500 in July 2014 from his mobile apps. Even if you don’t know how to code apps, you can hire developers on sites like Elance to code them for you.

6. Elance: Hawk your words

Speaking of Elance, the husband and wife team – Troy and Valerie Mellema – who run their “Words You Want” freelance writing business on the site, show current earnings of more than $450,000 over the past 12 months. Enough said.

7. eBay: Sell things around your house – or buy things to sell for higher prices

Tons of people have turned to eBay.com to make extra cash. Simply search through the “sold” listings to see the kinds of items that have sold recently and for how much. Whether you start off as a smaller seller like this blogger Yolanda, who is using her eBay profits to pay off her student loans – or whether you become a big player who buys shoes en masse and resells them for a profit, if you like selling and shipping stuff, give it a try.

8. Fiverr: Make money of just about any talent

If you scroll through the most popular sellers on Fiverr.com, you’ll note that they make money by offering everything from voiceover work to Photoshop skills.

9. iStockPhoto: Upload your photos, videos and illustrations for earnings

If you have a penchant for taking pics or drawing vector illustrations and the like, you can sell them as stock artwork on sites like iStockPhoto, where you’ll see that exclusive contributors and sellers like Beach Cottage Photography have experienced loads of downloads.

10: Instagram: Turn your social media photos into prints for a profit

Instagram.com isn’t just for sharing interesting pics or showing off your skinny waist in a corset. These days, photographers like Daniel Arnold have learned that he can make $15,000 in one day from the site. Even 15-year-old Ryan Parrilla has gotten in on the action and sells his beautiful Instagram photos as prints.

11. Whatever you want dot com: Start your own academy dot com

Popular author and speaker Pat Flynn worked as an architect until he got laid off in 2008. That turned out to be a big blessing in disguise, because he parlayed his knowledge of the LEED AP exam into a site called Green Exam Academy, which – among many additional pursuits – earned him nearly $4,500 for the month of June 2014 alone. Therefore, in the same way that sites like FXAcademy.com can help people wanting to learn more about Forex trading, use your own special career skills to help others who might seek information about your industry.

12. SiteSell: Work towards becoming a six-figure blogger

Lisa Irby has made more than $100,000 per year by teaching others for years how to start their own websites – either using WordPress or a SiteSell service that she loves. Follow her down-to-earth blog for tips and instructions on getting started.

13. Amazon Associates: Place special links on your blog to earn commissions on sales

Amazon Associates is a program that lets bloggers and writers place referral links to products on their websites or share via social media, etc., and when shoppers click through those links and buy something, the online retailer pays them a portion of the sale. Chris Guthrie has made goo-gobs of money that way over the years.

14. LinkShare: Recommend products and services to your readers

Retailers like Macy’s, Petsmart, Kohl’s and even Walmart have a presence on LinkShare.com, whereby if they approve you for participation in their programs, you can make money when customers buy products via your links. Harlan Yee made $118 in June 2014 that way.

15. Udemy: Teach an online course

Udemy profiled three successful course teachers using their site to make anywhere from $200 to $2,500 or more per month. Therefore, if you love teaching and have the kind of specialized skills folks are willing to pay for, you may find yourself enjoying a thriving online teaching business.

16. oDesk: Become a virtual assistant

The popular freelancing site called oDesk is merging with Elance, but on both you’ll find plenty of jobs posted by clients seeking virtual assistants to help them with plenty of tasks for varying rates. Scrolling through the administrative support category on Elance will turn up a bevy of individuals and companies that list their earnings as well.

17. Bubblews: Publish short, micro-articles for money

The interesting thing about sites like Bubblews is that anyone can join and publish short articles that earn small bits of money based on the number of views, comments, and other activity they receive. I’m a living witness that I’ve made $25 thus far from the site – albeit very slowly – and Michael Cimicata has apparently made at least $42.45 from the site as well.

18. Women’s Leadership Forum at BestBuy.com: Blog for gift cards, products

The site called WOLF at Best Buy is pretty fun, and us female bloggers generally jump at the chance to earn $50 Best Buy gift cards or products worth even more for writing about various specials, sales, etc., and promoting them to social media.

19. CJ.com: Promote products and services

Similar to other affiliate program sites, the website named Commission Junction at CJ.com features big name retailers Expedia, ULTA Beauty and QVC, who all offer to pay writers a portion of the sales they bring to those sites. I’ve made hundreds over the years from doing so.

20. Etsy: Pitch your jewelry and quirky designs

Some of the top sellers on Etsy, like beanforest, find success by selling pins. Find a wide variety of handmade and other crafts that may inspire you to sell there as well.

21. Teespring: A new model for selling t-shirts

A brand new way of selling t-shirts has arrived online, and sites like Teespring allow users to sell shirts that are of a great quality and don’t get created until there are enough buyers interested in the product, sort of like a shirt-on-demand business. Earnings for the campaigns can be discerned via the site’s data about the amount of shirts sold and the price per item.

22. Café Press: Sell customized products the old-fashioned way

If you’re no fan of the Teespring motto that forces you to “tip” a certain amount of sales prior to your shirts being printed, you can always use the old standby Café Press website to sell shirts, mugs and other stuff one by one.

23. Amazon FBA: Sell products with the “Fulfilled by Amazon” label

You know those products that you see on Amazon for sale from third-party sellers that still offer Amazon Prime shipping and “ships from Amazon” status? Those are sold by folks who ship products to Amazon’s fulfillment centers – and hopefully for a profit. Experts like Nathan Holmquist and Cynthia Stine are pros at doing so.

24. Examiner: Make money by writing articles

This writer just celebrated her 5th anniversary writing for Examiner.com, and although it usually doesn’t represent the $5,000 months of income that my PayPal account has seen during certain eras, the site does still pay writers about $5 for every 1,000 hits their articles receive. Carol Tice writes about making a full-time living there.

25. Deviant Art: Get money for your artwork

Just the other day I paid $5 for 400 points so my daughter could have her favorite artist on Deviant Art, Candi Floss, draw something for her that’s unique once she begins taking orders again. If you have similar skills, sell them on the site for artists and their fans.

26. Flippa: Create a profitable website and sell it

If you are good with setting up websites, you can use the site called Flippa to find someone to buy it from you when you need cash.

27. Social Spark: Write for money and trips

The site called Social Spark by IZEA Media allows bloggers to earn cash (or even trips, like I did when I was awarded a great one-night stay at Kalahari Waterpark for my whole family) for writing about a variety of products or experiences. Find a list of other bloggers who’ve benefitted on the site.

28. GoDaddy: Flip a popular dot com name

Let’s say you were smart enough to buy NoriWest.com or another potentially profitable domain name before anyone else. List it on GoDaddy Auctions and try to make money for a popular dot com name.

29. PayPal: Take money directly for your services

No matter if you’re a personal trainer, an SEO expert or a web assistant, you can always use online means to have your customers pay you. Take advantage of all the options that sites like PayPal.com or Square.com offer to make it easier for people to put money into your accounts.

30. Kontera: Monetize your content and social following with in-line and other ads

Another way to make money off of your online writings and social media following is to allow certain sites like Kontera to place ads within the content, whereby they automatically hyperlink certain words with relevant advertisements.
There you go! With 30 interesting ways to make money online listed above, you should start seeing your Internet income increase in no time.

10 Best Easy Ways To Make Money Using Social Media at Home

With all the social media outlets out there, a lot of money-making opportunities have arisen for people with an entrepreneurial spirit. Many of them don’t even require you to go to an office. Here are 10 ways to make money off of social money from home.

1. Coach someone remotely

You can help other people achieve their dreams without even leaving home. Whether you’re a physical therapist or a life coach or a financial advisor, you can do a lot of what you’d normally do in-person over social media. Whatever your expertise, you can coach people over email and Skype. To attract customers, first promote yourself on social media. Once you’ve impressed your followers with your knowledge, start a coaching service. This could turn into a sizable income if you already have a semi-lucrative professional, since it typically requires less of a time commitment than in-person coaching. One field that’s proven especially popular is personal training, with companies like FitOrbit offering a number of jobs that probably pay pretty well.

2. Become an Amazon affiliate

You can buy almost anything on Amazon, which means you can earn a commission off of almost any product if you’re an Amazon Affiliate. After signing up for the affiliate program you can give readers of your blog, Twitter feed, etc. special links to Amazon products. If they click on the link and buy that product or anything else on the site during that visit, you receive a small commission that can really add up over time. Pickmyshaver.com, which reviews shaving devices with links to the Amazon listings, is a prime example of a successful affiliate website. It sold for over $60,000 to Flippa just eight months after it debuted. Your chances of reaping similar rewards are reasonably good if your reviews attract a lot of attention, so write them well and and convincingly so they’ll read the review and then buy the product.

3. Monetize your YouTube channel

Are you a popular vlogger? Do you post a lot of funny animal videos that go viral? You might be able to make some income by joining the YouTube Partner Program, in which you allow Google to place ads at the beginning of your videos. You then share in that ad revenue. Grace Helbig is a prominent example of someone who’s made a living off of creating fun YouTube videos and promoting herself on other social media outlets. Admittedly, your chances of becoming a YouTube star and getting rich off it are low, but if you’ve got an engaging personality, sense of humor or a unique perspective than the YouTube Partner Program may be an avenue worth exploring.

4. Sell stock photos

Use a service like Flickr to get people acquainted with your work, offering photos they can use on their website for free under the Creative Commons license. Once you’ve built up a following, join another stock photography site like Shutterstock or iStockphoto where users will pay for the opportunity to use your pictures on their blogs. You can make up to $120 off of one paid download of your photo. Even if you get compensated at a lower level, the money can really add up if you take a lot of quality photographs.

5. Sell an e-book

Once you’ve built up a following and proven yourself to be knowledgeable about a certain subject, write and publish an e-book that your consistent social media presence will have persuaded your fans to buy. You can release it simply as a PDF or through services like Amazon’s Kindle program. Carol Tice demonstrated her expertise in the topics of freelance writing on social media, which she translated into major e-book sales. Some people make up to $100,000 a month off of the Kindle program alone, but that’s an example of extreme success. The average e-book brings in about $423 per year. But if your book is better written, better designed and better marketed than 90% of your competitors’, you will probably make more than that.

6. Sell handcrafted items on Instagram

With inSelly you can quickly turn simple photos on Instagram into images of products you have for sale. Read this how-to about setting up an online shop with one of the biggest social media outlets out there. Some of the most popular things to sell are things that are made by hand, so if you’re crafty consider putting your artistic skills to good (and profitable) use. Chances of making a huge sum of money off this aren’t high, but it’s not uncommon for someone to make a living off the combined totals of Instagram and similar services like Etsy.

7. Tantalize users with your product on Pinterest

Pinterest is a perfect platform for selling products. As a virtual pin-board, the social media service is commonly used by potential customers to “pin” items of interest that they might buy later. If you created a product or are in charge of marketing one, throw some photos of it on Pinterest to shine a spotlight on it. Look at great examples of companies that utilize Pinterest to its fullest potential like TODAY, Whole Foods Market and the Travel Channel here. If you can land a freelance job doing something similar you can hit it pretty big, but you probably need the right experience to be in the running. However, small businesses also want to promote on Pinterest, and they’re more likely to hire based on enthusiasm and a go-getter attitude, so maybe start making some cold calls and emails.

8. Sponsor products and services

This is probably the most direct way to make money off social media. You utilize your (hopefully sizable) list of followers by selling to companies the rights to promote their products or services as a post on your social media account. Check out this site to learn more. The chances of making a lot of money this way is high if your number of followers is in the six figures, but rather low if you have less than a thousand followers.

9. Manage social media

Managing social media isn’t a particularly lucrative profession yet, but it does serve a growing need for a lot of businesses. If you keep an eye out for job postings you might be able to nab a job promoting a company or brand on various social media services. A lot of those jobs are independent contractor positions, many of which you can work remotely. If you’ve got a lot of experience with social media beyond just being a user, though, you may be able to get hired to develop social media strategy. Telling businesses how specifically to approach their social media presence would very likely net you a nice income.

10. Use social media to network

You can increase your income simply by using social media to take your current career to the next level. Obviously LinkedIn is a place to network and find job opportunities, but other social networks can achieve similar results. If a business is more casual, try friending your dream employer on Facebook. If you’re an expert on some topic, create a Twitter account to expound on that topic. There really isn’t a career that wouldn’t benefit at least a little from a social media presence.

15 Best Money Saving Strategies for Couples

If you and your partner have big plans coming up, whether it’s a vacation, marriage, new house or even a child, finding ways to pinch pennies can sometimes be difficult. However, there are some simple ideas to stretch dollars and cut corners in order to help you meet your financial goals. If you aren’t sure where to begin, here are 15 money-saving tips to get you started.

1. Go on Dates That Cost Next to Nothing

While going out to classy restaurants, concerts and sports games can make for amazing dates, they can also run your bank account dry. If you’re trying to save money, coming up with inexpensive date ideas is key. Having a dinner and movie night in, going to see a local band at a free event, or even going for a hike are fun and cheap.

2. Sign Up For Free Customer Rewards Programs

Taking advantage of free rewards programs can help you cut corners easily. Many media services like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Redbox offer free trials that can help you receive free movie rentals or get you waived shipping fees. Other types of rewards programs, which are through supermarkets or gas stations, can help you save money every time you shop.

3. If the Time Is Right, Move In Together

If you don’t already live together and are considering it, sharing a living space can save a huge amount of money. Not only do rent and utilities become easier to manage when you split the cost, but many other expenses like food and gas become cheaper as well.

4. When Furnishing A New Place, Buy Used

buy used
If you’re moving into an apartment and need furniture, buying new tables and chairs and everything in between can add up fast. Instead, bargain hunt at thrift shops, yard sales and flea markets. With a little TLC and a coat of spray paint, a coffee table or lamp can look like new. Or even better.

5. Consolidate Whenever Possible

To make the most of your money, consolidate expenses with your partner whenever possible. Easy things to consolidate include cell phone bills, magazine subscriptions and digital subscriptions.

6. Make Your Own Cleaning Supplies

cleaning supplies
Spending money on items you don’t necessarily enjoy purchasing, like cleaning supplies, can be a bummer, especially when those expenses start to pile up. Instead, buy natural ingredients and make your own.

7. Get Rid of Unnecessary Subscriptions

Magazine subscriptions, cable bills and online media subscriptions are often the biggest culprits when it comes to hidden expenses.

8. Make the Most of Grocery Shopping

Buying groceries is a huge drain on money, unless you do it right. Buy necessities (toilet paper, baking items and frozen food) on sale and in bulk. Also, before shopping, make an airtight grocery list so you don’t purchase anything unnecessary.

9. Take Cheaper Vacations

When possible, make your own meals and snacks instead of ordering out when you vacation. Also, look into camping instead of pricey hotels, or try to find a Groupon or other discount available.

10. Combine Your Finances

combine finances
If you and your partner live together and share expenses, creating a joint account can help you create a budget for the items and expenses that you pay together, and save money in the process.

11. Have Frequent Discussions About Your Goals

When making any savings plan, it’s key to account for what your future goals are and what you’re actually saving for. By gauging what you want to have and what you want to accomplish in the future, you can adjust your savings plan as needed.

12. Adjust Your Insurance Policy

If you pay high monthly insurance bills, you understand how much of a drain this can put on your finances. You’re not the only couple feeling this, as 1.7 million people declared bankruptcy in 2013 because of medical debt alone. To help ease this load, look for ways to adjust your insurance plan so that it’s more affordable.

13. If You Have A Credit Card, Don’t Use It

If your goal is to pinch pennies and save money, stop spending with your credit card. While it may seem like a harmless way to boost your credit score, using this piece of plastic and becoming a little to trigger happy with it, can come with serious financial consequences.

14. Make A Debt Plan

If you and your significant other are currently in debt, making a plan to help you overcome it efficiently is all too important. By assessing your debts together, you can more comprehensively determine the best repayment plan to reduce expensive interest and get out of debt quicker.
